John Cantlie, Princes William and Harry's friend, is the latest ISIL hostage in Syria that has been featured in a propaganda video leaked Thursday, Sept. 18, US Weekly has learned.
According to several reports, photojournalist John Cantlie - Princes William and Harry's motorcycling buddy - has been identified to be the person featured on the new ISIL video, where he could be seen telling everyone that the British government has actually "abandoned" him and that he is currently pleading for negotiations to be opened to spare his life from the hands of the Islamic State militants.
In the video, Princes William and Harry's pal could be seen sitting behind a desk and reading an autocue. This is of course very different from the previously released videos that showed the barbaric approach of the militants in conveying their message to the world.
The 433-year-old photojournalist has reportedly worked for some of the biggest news outlets in the UK, including The Sunday Telegraph and The Sunday Times. He has been held hostage once back in July 2012. Though he managed to escape with the help of the Free Syrian Army, he insisted that he still wanted to continue his work in Syria thus explains his second kidnapping, noted Inquisitr.
In 2008, John Cantlie, Princes William and Harry engaged into a Enduro Africa charity bike ride together. Cantlie was at the time the official photographer of the eight-day, 1,000-mile ride event in South Africa.
In November 2008, Cantlie reportedly returned to Syria, only to be captured the second time. He has been held hostage for almost two years now, but no news about his capture has been released until now.
In the newly leaked video, John Cantlie criticizes the war on the Islamic State and he also encourages people to tune in for his further broadcasts as he is set to reveal "the truth" about the situation in the Islamic State, which currently controls Syria and Iraq.
It can be noted that prior to Cantlie's video, clips featuring the beheading of two American journalists and one British aid worker were leaked online.
President Barack Obama is reportedly preparing to intensify the efforts and measures the U.S. will be making in taking down ISIS. Other nations have expressed their willingness to help.
