Alisan Porter alcoholism - The 33-year-old former child star took to her Lil' Mamas blog Thursday, to confess her dark past with alcohol addiction, ABC News has learned.
The "Curly Sue" actress bravely admitted to her readers about her history with alcohol, how she had conquered her battle and how she remained sober for almost seven years now.
Alisan Porter's alcoholism confession reportedly began with an introduction of herself and a straight forward acknowledgment of being an alcoholic. However, she went to clarify that she had been sober since Oct. 28, 2007 and that she never had a drink or drug ever since.
"I was miserable and overwhelmed with life. I was heartbroken and realizing that what had always worked for me in the past was NOT working at all. Not even a little bit. I felt trapped, scared, and sad and I was ready to really go for broke or get better," Porter wrote. "So, I did what every good user does and I prayed to a god I had never believed in... and then called my mom."
She said she then went to treatment days after, and for the next four years she attended meetings, followed the steps, found a sponsor, prayed to a god of her own understanding, meditated and grew up.
Alisan Porter's alcoholism victory didn't come easy however, as she also admitted to being tempted to go back to her old habits when things get too stressful at times while raising her two kids, Aria Sage, 4 months, and Mason Blaise, 2. But she said her responsibilities to her two children and the fear of losing them to alcohol have always reminded her to stay sober no matter what.
"I don't drink because I can't. I want to, a lot of days, because I'm human and because life gets hard. But I don't ... I've lost that privilege in this lifetime. But every day that I wake up to my kids clear as a bell and ready to take on another day in this new skin, I am grateful."
As to why Alisan Porter's alcoholism confessions just emerged now, the actress told People she had waited a long time to write about her sobriety because it was a delicate subject. "Also, you never know when you're going to wake up and realize the disease won. I've been profoundly affected by so many losses of late and if I can help just one person, one former child actor or especially one mother, this will be worth it."
