Mom Prison Daughter’s Abortion: Single Mother Sentenced to Jail after Procuring Abortion Pills for 16-Year-Old Pregnant Daughter

Mom Prison Daughter's Abortion - A Pennsylvania single mother has been sentenced to jail for helping her teenage daughter end an unwanted pregnancy.

The woman in the case dubbed as the Mom Prison Daughter's Abortion was identified as 39-year-old Jennifer Ann Whalen of Washingtonville. She was accused of procuring abortion pills online and providing them to her 16-year-old daughter who wanted to terminate her pregnancy, Reuters reported.

Whalen, who is said to be working as a nursing home aide, pleaded guilty in August to purchasing the miscarriage-inducing medications for her daughter from a European online site.

On Friday, she was sentenced to serve 12 to 18 months in jail by Judge Gary Norton of Montour County Court of Common Pleas for violating a state law requiring abortions to be carried out by physicians.

Furthermore, Whalen of the mom prison daughter's abortion case, was fined $1,000 and was ordered to complete 40 hours of community service after her discharge. The felony offense reportedly entailed up to seven years in jail and a $15,000 fine.

Whalen's lawyer, Matthew Bingham Banks, is said to have previously told Reuters that criminal prosecutions of such kind were not typical.

The single mother of the mom prison daughter's abortion case told authorities they couldn't find a local clinic to perform the abortion at the time and her child did not have health insurance to cover the expenses in a hospital abortion, according to the Press Enterprise newspaper of Bloomberg. The closest abortion clinic to their home is reportedly about 74 miles away in Harrisburg.

After taking the pills, the 16-year-old girl reportedly experienced severe abdominal cramping and bleeding, and Whalen had to take her daughter to a hospital near their home for treatment.

Banks said his client understands that "her decision was poor."

The Pennsylvania Mom Prison Daughter's Abortion case succeeds the case of a Florida man sentenced in January to 13 years in prison and $28,500 restitution after pleading guilty to tricking his girlfriend into taking an abortion pill, Daily Mail has learned.
