Camper Sleepwalks Off Cliff - A Cincinnati outdoor adventurer suffered serious injuries after he reportedly fell 60 feet off a cliff littered with boulders while walking in his sleep away from his Kentucky campsite Thursday morning.
Powell County Emergency Management reportedly said that the man was camping on a cliff near Grey's Arch Trail with pals.
According to several Camper Sleepwalks Off Cliff reports, the unidentified individual was rescued in the Red River Gorge and rescue teams from two different counties had to be called in after the man's friends and fellow campers found him at the bottom of the cliff. His companions reportedly sought help at around 1:15 a.m. after they woke up and realized he was missing.
"He fell approximately 60 feet, landed in an area that was littered with large boulders," Wolfe County rope technician John May told FOX56 of the camper sleepwalks off cliff incident.
"The campers who were with him found him at the bottom of a 60 foot cliff. The individual has a history of sleepwalking. So camping on a cliff ledge, that's probably what led to this incident," he explained.
The rescue operation for the camper sleepwalks off cliff took several hours, but the crew were able to pull the man to safety four hours later. It reportedly wasn't a simple task due to the cliff's jagged edges and the dark and foggy conditions.
The unidentified man in the camper sleepwalks off cliff incident was rushed to the UK Hospital after the rescue, and is said to have suffered a head injury, a fractured leg and a dislocated shoulder, but is otherwise all right, ABC13 has learned.
"It's really a miracle. He fell 60 feet into boulders and you know if you'd hit one of the boulders, it's certainly the mapping of one hundred different outcomes. So very very fortunate that he survived this. You know, from what we've been told he should make a full recovery. So it's quite remarkable," May said quite impressed that the man in the camper sleepwalks off cliff incident survived the fall.
