Pierce Brosnan stood up to cancer and talked about how the disease has caused him and his family grief and pain during an event in Hollywood, Calif., on Friday.
The 'James Bond' star fearlessly shared his own experience with the said disease as he took the center stage that night. He went into details as to how the life-taker disease has greatly affected his life and how it caused too much pain not just for him, but also to his loved ones who have been diagnosed with it. The actor began to share to the audience his heartbreaking story when his first wife and daughter lost the battle against what he called an 'insidious disease'.
Witnessing all the sufferings of a family member diagnosed with cancer has been totally hard for the actor. Pierce Brosnan even shared that the sadness of watching someone he loves being deprived with life in a slow manner has become a permanent of who he is. During the talk, the "Mama Mia" actor opened up to the crowd that the lives of his first wife, Cassandra Harris and Charlotte Brosnan have been taken away too soon by the said disease.
Pierce Brosnan's first wife reportedly died way back in 1991 after losing her battle against the ovarian cancer while his daughter Charlotte just passed away last year with the same condition.
I held the generous, strong, beautiful hand of my first wife Cassie as ovarian cancer took her life much too soon. Just last year, I held the hand of my funny, wonderful daughter Charlotte before she, too, died from this wretched inherited disease," he said during the event.
The actor also announced that an ovarian cancer dream team will be launched with the help of other research institutes. Aside from Pierce Brosnan, celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kevin Bacon and Kerry Washington also participated in Stand Up to Cancer in order to raise awareness while encouraging other people to give.
