Eventually, officers were able to have the man "cornered" and disabled inside a house.
"As you can see there is still a lot of police activity in the street and that will continue for a number of hours. We are still trying to understand the motive for the attack. We do not believe this to be terrorist related," Letchford said.
Commenting on suggestions that the woman beheaded in London knew the attacker, Letchford said, "There is nothing to suggest she may or may not have known the suspect."
However, he said eyewitness reported seeing the man was a cat before pursuing the woman beheaded in London.
He said, "That is the earlier call that [police] responded to]." Meanwhile, RTE News reports that there is no suggestion of the incident being linked to a terrorist motive. The suspect is reportedly a Muslim-convert.
An officer conducting the press conference said that "these events on our streets are very unusual and not common."
He added that "based on what we know, we do not believe this was a terror related incident."
The suspect is now in custody at a local hospital receiving treatment for wounds he got during his arrest, according to police. The man who had woman beheaded in London will reportedly be assessed by psychiatrists, tested for drugs and questioned by Homicide and Major Crimes officers.
Lead of the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector John Sandlin, said, "This was a highly visible attack in broad daylight on a residential street. I can understand why this may cause people concern, however we are confident that we are not looking for anyone else at this stage."
He added, "Local officers and specialist detectives are at the scene and will remain there for many hours to come. Specially trained family liaison officers will be deployed to support the family; we request that their privacy is respected at this very difficult time."
Sandlin also pointed out that the incident of the woman beheaded in London was not a terrorist attack.
Sandlin said, "Whilst it is too early to speculate on what the motive behind this attack was I am confident, based on the information currently available to me that it is not terrorist related."
Edmonton MP Andy Love reportedly told the Standard he was "shocked" by the killing.
Woman beheaded in London is still under investigation by detectives in Enfield. Enquiries are also currently ongoing.
