Great Dane eating socks news surprised its owners. Initially, the family who owned the Great Dane eating socks in Oregon blamed their washing machine after they kept losing their socks. It was only after they took their pet Great Dane eating socks to the veterinarian that they found out who the culprit really was.
The 3-year-old Great Dane eating socks showed signs and symptoms of retching and vomiting. The family who owned the dog brought him to a local veterinarian's office to have their beloved pet checked up.
As reported by the Veterinary Practice News, which is a trade publication, after an X-ray procedure was done at the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital in Portland, they discovered that the stomach of the dog served as a house to a "large quantity of foreign material." This trade publication actually hosts an annual X-ray contest for animals, aptly calling it "They Ate What."
Apparently, the Great Dane eating socks have eaten almost 44 socks. This bizarre incident was enough to merit DoveLewis a third place in the "They Ate What" contest, coming in behind the story of a frog that ate ornamental rocks and another dog that ate a shish kebab skewer.
In the case of the Great Dane eating socks, 43 and a half socks have been removed successfully from its stomach after undergoing a surgery that lasted for nearly three hours. The surgery was performed by Dr. Ashley Magee. The spokesperson of DoveLewis, Shawna Harch, told ABC News about the procedure that Magee performed, she said, "She said, 'I just kept pulling out sock after sock after sock.' She was definitely surprised."
The surgery that was performed on the Great Dane eating socks was actually done last February. However, it was only made public just last week when the trade publication announced its official winners of the 2014 X-ray contest.
