The Houston Rockets reportedly pulled off a trade to acquire veteran guard and former Sixth Man of the Year Jason Terry from the Sacramento Kings on Monday.
The Rockets, who were looking for a much needed scoring punch off the bench after trading primary bench scorer Jeremy Lin to the Los Angeles Lakers this offseason, snagged Terry by sending Alonzo Gee, two future second-round picks and another non-guaranteed contract.
"The Rockets will acquire guard Jason Terry in a trade with the Sacramento Kings, a person with knowledge of the deal confirmed," ESPN reported on Monday.
"The Rockets will also receive two second-round draft picks and send guard/forward Alonzo Gee to the Kings, along with at least one other non-guaranteed contract."
After he was included in a trade that also sent Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce from Boston to Brooklyn last summer, the 36-year old Terry played 35 games, averaging 4.5 points and 1.6 assists per contest.
The Nets then traded the guard to the Kings in exchange for shooting guard Marcos Thornton at February's trade deadline. Terry never played a single game for Sacramento as he was sidelined with a left knee injury.
Replacement for Jeremy Lin
The Rockets are hoping Terry could provide the same offensive spark Lin had delivered off the bench last season. The 26-year old Lin averaged 12 points and 4 dimes as a backup for starting point guard Patrick Beverley.
Although he's not considered as a natural point guard, Terry could give the Rockets another ball handler and a very capable scorer off the bench. The Rockets have been trying to salvage a playmaker since losing Lin, contacting several Eastern Conference teams last week, per ESPN NBA insider report.
After losing several quality players (Lin, Omer Asik and Chandler Parsons) along with missing out elite free-agents (Chris Bosh and Carmelo Anthony, the Rockets made some solid transaction by signing Trevor Ariza, Kostas Papanikolaou, and Francisco Garcia.
The Rockets made it to the postseason for the second consecutive year, locking up the fourth seed in the Western Conference with a 54-28 slate. However, they were upset in six games by the Portland Trail Blazers in the first round.
