Despite Joan Rivers in coma now, she reportedly gave no hint of a needed surgery while taping a special 90-minute edition of her E! show "Fashion Police" the same night she had surgery.
She covering both the Emmy Awards and the MTV VMA's during the show, where her voice reportedly sounded raspy. However, her signature gravelly voice and biting tongue had been known for ages.
Also, Joan Rivers in coma now came only 12 hours after she performed an hour of stand-up comedy in Manhattan.
According to the Daily Mail, Melissa Rivers rushed from LA to New York with son Cooper after hearing of her mom's condition. Melissa reportedly arrived at Mount Sinai around 8 p.m. and was afterwards ushered to the 11th floor luxury room where Joan is said to be in a coma, but stable condition, according to doctors.
The Insider with Yahoo received a statement from Melissa Friday, who has been keeping a close eye on her mother since Thursday.
The statement said, "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible."
According to sources close to the family, doctors who had Joan Rivers in coma are planning to re-evaluate her condition over the weekend.
Melissa said in a statement, "My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."
She told Yahoo previously that the comedienne "was resting comfortably and is with our family."
On Friday, the 81-year-old star still remained in a serious condition, reports the Daily Mail.
Meanwhile, doctors are reportedly concerned over the length of time Joan's brain was starved of oxygen. According to the New York Daily News, they are unsure how long Joan went without breathing. In the meantime, they are still trying to assess how her sudden collapse might affect her in the future.
A close friend recently told the Daily News that Melissa is distraught since Joan may face a life-or-death decision, depending on the doctors' findings.
The future may seem bleak as Joan Rivers in coma now, however the best is still expected after a prognosis which could reportedly come from Mount Sinai doctors one day after the incident.
The close friend said Joan "would never want to be a burden on anyone," a close friend told the Daily News. "If she can't recover and live a full and active life, she would rather be gone."
The friend added, "The thought of her sitting at home unable to look after herself or suffering brain damage is heartbreaking."
On the other hand, the comedienne's aide, Graham Reed, told the NY Daily News of Joan Rivers in coma "She's not conscious, but she's stable."
Another source also told the New York Daily News that while Melissa is coping with her mother's health, she is currently staying at her apartment on the Upper East Side.
Meanwhile, her friends are helping take care of her 13-year-old son Cooper.
There is still no word as to when Joan Rivers might be brought out of the coma or what the next step is towards her recovery.
