Caesar salad kit recalled - An estimated 92, 657 pounds of fully cooked chicken Caesar salad kit products have been recalled by the APPA Fine Foods of Corona, CA, for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service, the Daily Chef Caesar salad kits recalled were delivered nationwide to Sam's Club.
The Caesar salad kit recalled program applies to 11-oz. Clear plastic containers and 6.5-lb. boxes labeled, "APPA Fine Foods/Sam's Club Daily Chef CAESAR SALAD KIT" with case codes 141851, 141922, 141951, 141991, 142021, 142201 or 142131 and with use by dates of 8/14/14, 8/21/14, 8/27/14, 9/1/14, 9/3/14 or 9/17/14, Fox News has learned.
The Caesar salad kits recalled were produced on July 4, July 11, July 14, July 18, July 21, July 25, Aug. 1 and Aug. 8, 2014.
The FSIS was reportedly prompted by authorities with the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development that they received two confirmed positive results for Listeria monocytogenes from retail products obtained from one of the bulk warehouse chain locations. Intact components of the Caesar salad kit recalled were then tested by the bulk warehouse chain, and only the chicken turned up positive for Listeria.
So far, the FSIS and APPA Fine Foods have not received any report of sickness related to the consumption of Caesar salad kit recalled products, according to KSN.com. Any person concerned about an ailment is urged to contact a healthcare provider.
The Caesar salad kits were recalled for fear of Listeriosis - an infection characterized by muscle aches, fever, headache, confusion, stiff neck, loss of balance and convulsions occasionally preceded by diarrhea or other gastrointestinal symptoms. The infection can cause miscarriages, stillbirths and premature delivery among pregnant women,
Recall effectiveness checks are routinely conducted by FSIS to make sure withdrawing companies inform their customers of the recall and the steps taken to make certain that the products in question are no longer available to consumers, Food Safety News reported.
