Louis Van Gaal believes Manchester United is capable of getting big names such as Real Madrid midfielder Angel di Maria and Barcelona striker Lionel Messi before the transfer window ends.
Van Gaal, who hasn't tasted a victory in two games as the manager at Old Trafford, believed the team's management must now start to look for ideal players who could perform well in his 3-5-2 system before the allowed period expires.
The Dutch tactician has strong faith in the capability of Manchester United management to bring over elite players such as Di Maria and Messi, who is considered the best football player in the era.
"I like Di María but I like Lionel Messi also," Van Gaal said n a recent interview. "It is not only Di María, maybe it's Messi too. We are a big club."
Despite dominating ball possession for the rest of the game, the Dutchman stressed the team lacks the creativity to capitalize on golden opportunity. Acquiring Di Maria and Messi could certainly fill that void in their lineup.
Di Maria recorded 26 assists last season as an architect of some of Real Madrid's goals. However, his tenure in Madrid is under threat following the arrival of Colombian midfielder James Rodriguez and German playmaker Tony Kross.
On the other hand, Messi (dubbed as the little magician) tallied 41 goals last season for Barcelona. Manchester United has been targeting the Argentine goal-scoring machine for the past few years, but it seems they have to wait for at least two more years after FIFA upheld its previous decision to impose a two-year transfer ban on La Liga giant for their violation on recruiting a minor.
"You need creative passing in the last third but our balls were not so good," he added. "We were dominating without creating chances. There were so many chances we didn't create. And that's disappointing."
Despite the arrival of the top-notch manager, the Red Devils remain winless in their English Premier League campaign after failing to Sunderland 2-1 in the opener and then played to a 1-1 draw against Swansea City at the Stadium of Light last Saturday.
