White lion cubs born Germany - The births of an extraordinary breed of lion in a circus on Wednesday has been making headlines as photos of the adorable cubs were shared to the public online.

Contrary to initial speculations, the white lion cubs born in Germany are not albinos, rather, they are products of a rare genetic trait that render their fur white, the Associated Press has learned. Their father King Tonga (aged 11) - now a father of 16 from two females - and mother Princess (7), are carriers of the said gene, explaining their bizarre feature. The two parents have also given birth to six cubs in 2012 at Circus Krone.
Furthermore, King Tonga also fathered a cub by a another white lioness named Diamond in April this year.
According to the conservation group Global White Lion Protection Trust (WLT), the scarce lions' only natural range is the greater Timbavati bush region in South Africa.
A considerable number of white lions are usually found in zoo and circuses all over the world just like the white lion cubs born in Germany, and the those that are known in the wild are reportedly only a few prides in South Africa.
Susanne Matzenau, a spokeswoman for the circus told BBC that the white lion cubs born in Germany would not be able to go on show in the circus for at least four years. They will have to spend a year first with their mother and eventually mingle with other lions and undergo training.
"Once a lion gets a name it goes to the trainer for its education," said Ms. Matzenau.
Prior the naming of the white lion cubs born in Germany, they will be first observed by the lion-tamer to see their character. After four or five weeks, each will be named then.
