Steve Ballmer's time at Microsoft has now come to a full stop. He used to be the company's Chief Executive, but he has just submitted his resignation as one of the members of Microsoft's board on Tuesday. This was his primary remaining affiliation with Microsoft since he left the top spot back in February.
Steve Ballmer mentioned in his resignation letter on the official website of Microsoft that a combination of new responsibilities, which include his recent ownership of the NBA team Los Angeles Clippers, that have made him far too busy to serve efficiently on the board. He also mentioned that he was very pleased with the direction that the company was taking under the management of Satya Nadella, who is the company's new Chief Executive. The letter was actually addressed to Nadella.
Steve Ballmer said, "Give my confidence and the multitude of new commitments I am taking on now, I think it would be impractical for me to continue to serve on the board, and it is best for me to move off. The fall will be hectic between teaching a new class and the start of the NBA season, so my departure from the board is effective immediately."
Steve Ballmer's decision to leave the company was actually not surprising for many people, both inside and outside of the company. In fact, just last year, he was being pressured by the board to speed up his retirement from the company.
His new record deal for the Clippers, which he got after a $2 billion purchase, provided him with a new focus for his attention. Steve Ballmer has just actually completed this deal only last week.
The exact date that Steve Ballmer will be leaving the board remains uncertain to date. Still, no matter when he will be leaving, the 58-year-old Steve Ballmer surely made it clear during a news conference for the Clippers that was held in Los Angeles on Monday, that he has plans on becoming a fully involved team owner.
