24-Year-Old Man Accused of Mutilating 5 Dogs at Nevada Super 8 Motel

A 24-year-old man has been accused of mutilating 5 dogs at a Nevada Motel leaving what witnesses describe as a morbid scene.

Jason Brown, a 24-year-old man accused of mutilating 5 dogs at a Nevada motel, was arrested July 9, after a maid who discovered a decapitated dog in a room he was renting at the Super 8 in south Reno, reported the incident to authorities, the Associated Press reported.

According to the probable cause filings made by the detectives, responding officers found four dog heads in a small refrigerator inside the room. They also reportedly found two bloody kitchen knives, the scissors of a Swiss Army knife and other dog parts.

Two chihuahuas given by a woman to Jason Brown - because she couldn't care for them - were among the victims of the 24-year-old man accused of mutilating 5 dogs, police said.

Among other items recovered from Brown's room are a dog dish, tennis ball, blankets and dog collars with rabies tags registered to Nancy Frank, the woman who is said to have given the chihuahuas to Brown, the Washoe County sheriff's deputies said.

On July 4, Al Von Wellscheim first sent the Washoe County sheriff's dispatch an email claiming that a woman informed him she saw dog body parts in Jason Brown's sport utility vehicle.

Investigators later confirmed the said SUV to be registered under Brown.

Brown, the 24-year-old man accused of mutilating 5 dogs, was scheduled to make an appearance at a hearing at the Reno Justice Court on Wednesday. He is charged with six felony counts of torturing or maiming and killing an animal and two counts of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.

Last month, his lawyer, John Oakes, told Reno Gazette-Journal that his client has"mental health issues" and probably needs a psychiatric evaluation before he proceeds to trial.

The 24-year-old man accused of mutilating 5 dogs at the Super 8, is said to have killed a sixth victim at another location. He is currently being held on $70,0000 cash bond at the county jail.
