“Game of Thrones” Actor Dies at 86; JJ Murphy, Ser Denys Mallister, will Not be Recasted, Says Show Execs

JJ Murphy was 86 years old when died. The "Game of Thrones" actor dies while he was already four days into filming his assigned scenes for the show's upcoming 5th season, as reported by Belfast Telegraph. Murphy was selected to be part of the show's cast as Ser Denys Mallister, who happened to be the most senior member of the Night's Watch.

The highly talented "Game of Thrones" actor dies on Friday after he had just completed filming the first few scenes assigned to his role. He was actually scheduled to shoot for some more before the tragic loss.

Executive Producers of "Game of Thrones," David Benioff and D.B. Weiss told Daily News, "We will not be recasting J.J. Murphy. He was a lovely man, and the best Denys Mallister we could have hoped for. And now his watch is ended."

The "Game of Thrones" actor dies was actually born in Belfast, and learned how to act in 1948 with the Ulster Group Theater School. He had already worked with Ciaran Hinds and Liam Neeson at the Belfast's Lyric Theater. In fact, he had just wrapped his role as a village elder in an upcoming horror flick entitled, "Dracula Untold," which was shot in Northern Ireland. Plus, audiences from America may have also recognized him from 1999's "Angela's Ashes."

The "Game of Thrones" actor dies had his own agent, Philip Young, who informed Telegraph, "I have never encountered a man with more spirit, passion, and love for his craft." Murphy is survived by his loving wife, Mary, and several children, all of whom have already grown.
