Brooke Burke Twitter Star Opens Up About Battle with Thyroid Cancer; Cancer Found on Routine Check-Up Despite Seeing Doctor for Over a Decade

Brooke Burke, now Brooke Burke-Charvet, has returned from her battle with cancer stronger than ever.

The co-host of the internationally famous TV show, "Dancing with the Stars," told Shape for their September issue, "It's crazy that not long ago I had cancer and now I'm cancer-free, and that might not be the case if I hadn't gone for a check-up. Now, I feel like I'm beginning the best part of my life."

It was actually in the later part of 2012 that the 42-year-old Brooke Burke Twitter was given the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Brooke Burke Twitter was also previously diagnosed with Hashimoto's disease, which was why she had to keep seeing her private physician for more than ten years. This condition is believed to be the most common of hypothyroidism. She had to take synthetic thyroid medicine every single day for all those years.

However, according to Brooke Burke Twitter, she only found out about the cancer when it was discovered, surprisingly, during a routine physical. Brooke Burke Twitter shared, "The condition wasn't even diagnosed by a thyroid doctor, but during a regular check-up. They found a questionable lump. Then, I got an ultrasound and biopsies, and sure enough, it was cancer. But, the prognosis was great."

Recounting this, Brooke Burke Twitter then added, "It's so important, when you get alarming news, to do research, get a second opinion, and not panic."

According to Brooke Burke Twitter, she has been free of cancer since she had her thyroidectomy procedure. She said, "They took it out. It's gone, and it's all good." Now, she said that the scar was barely noticeable. She had to avoid being exposed to the sun after her procedure and she also had to make some adjustments to her thyroid-related medications.

Brooke Burke Twitter told Shape, "That was a little trick, but that's one of the challenges with thyroid issues: figuring out the amount of Synthroid you need, getting your hormone levels right, and then making adjustments."
