Stockton Bank Robbery Hostage Misty Jean Holt-Singh Killed by Officers' Gunfire: Police Chief [WATCH VIDEO]

The Stockton bank robbery hostage who died last month in a shootout, was killed by police officer's gunfire, not that of the suspects', Stockton's police chief declared Monday, KCRA.com reported.

Results of a Preliminary ballistic report showed that cops fired the bullets that killed the 41-year-old Stockton bank robbery hostage Misty Jean Holt-Singh, according to Police Chief Eric Jones.

"(Officers) have a lot of sadness for Misty's family and are having a hard time with it," Jones said. "They are upset at the tragic situation and are outraged by the actions of the three assailants."

The mother-of-two Stockton bank robbery hostage endured around 10 shots, Jones added, LA Times has learned.

During the July 16 Stockton bank robbery at the West branch, Holt-Singh and two other women were taken hostage and used as human shield.

The robbers armed with three handguns and an AK-47 attempted to fled with the hostages in an SUV owned by one of the Bank employees, and a police pursuit and shootout ensued, officials said.

The chase reportedly took around an hour and brought more than 30 officers in the middle of a barrage of bullets fired by the suspects.

Prior the Monday release of the preliminary investigation, cops had claimed that sole surviving suspect Jaime Ramos, 19, had used Stockton bank robbery hostage Holt-Singh, as human shield when the chase came to an end in North Stockton, however, they are uncertain whether the victim died from shots made by the suspects or the police, according to NBC Bay Area.

The Stockton Police Department also revealed on Monday that the AK-47 used during the robbery was also previously used in a gang shooting.

The questions raised by the community have prompted Jones to release preliminary investigation before the full report is issued. But before disclosing the new details to the public, Jones said he had first met with the Holt-Singh family and provided them with the information.

A fourth suspect to the Stockton bank robbery reportedly remains at-large.
