Unbeknownst to the nine-year-old, the alligator was already waiting for him and seconds later, he was snatched right then and there by the reptile.

Barney recalled, 'At first I thought someone was just playing with me and I didn't know what happened. I reached down to go grab it and I felt its jaw, I felt its teeth and I didn't know what to do'

The boy said he immediately punched the predator and therefore managed to force its jaws open enough so he could struggle free.

He said he hit the large reptile several times.

Barney added, 'So, then it was letting go a little and then finally I had enough strength left to pry its jaw open a little.'

According to The Telegraph, on Thursday, the swimming portion of the lake where the incident happened was closed due to trappers working to catch the alligator.

On Friday, trappers said they spotted the animal early but weren't able to catch it.

Today, it appears that the alligator has finally been caught by a trapper. According to The Mirror, the trapper caught the reptile at Lake Toho in St Cloud.
