Tony Stewart accident - The three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion, hit and killed a fellow driver during a sprint car race.
Kevin Ward Jr. was walking on the darkened dirt track of Canandaigua Motorsports Park in upstate New York Saturday night, when the Tony Stewart accident happened with the pro's car slamming at him, taking away his life, The Blaze reported.
Prior the accident, Ward and Stewart were racing side-by-side for position when the former's vehicle crashed after contact with the latter a lap earlier, causing Kevin to get out of the car as it was stopped along the fence.
In the Tony Stewart accident video, Ward could be seen walking from the crash site onto the racing surface where cars swerved by, and as he gestured at Stewart's car, he was hit, according to People.
Stewart is said to be "visibly" shaken by the horrifying incident and had been fully cooperative in the investigation, Ontario County Sheriff Philip Povero said.
"This is right now being investigated as an on-track crash and I don't want to infer that there are criminal charges pending," he stated. "When the investigation is completed, we will sit down with the district attorney and review it. But I want to make it very clear: there are no criminal charges pending at this time."
According to a witness to the Tony Stewart accident, it seemed as though Ward was trying to confront Stewart after he got out of his car following the bump.
He could be seen in the Tony Stewart accident video standing to the right of Stewart's No. 14 car, which appeared from the rear and ultimately hit him.
The dirt track then canceled the rest of the race and later posted a message on Facebook, asking fans to "pray for the entire racing community of fans, drivers, and families."
Meanwhile, after Tony Stewart's accident, the pro released a statement on Sunday expressing grief over the death of Ward, CBS New York has learned.
Stewart-Haas Racing competition director Greg Zipadelli also declared earlier Sunday that Stewart would not compete at the Watkins Glen NASCAR race following the deadly Tony Stewart accident.
