Hawaii Earthquake 2014: Tremor Strikes Big Island Ahead of Two Approaching Hurricanes

Hawaii earthquake 2014 - a relatively strong tremor has shook Hawaii's Big Island while two hurricanes are approaching to hit the said area, ABC News reported Wednesday.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the Hawaii earthquake 2014 was said to be a magnitude 4.5 and it struck the north tip off the Big Island.

The said area rattled as the Hawaii earthquake 2014 approached towards 7 miles from Waimea at 6:24 a.m. local time.

While the U.S. Geological Survey originally issued a statement saying that the quake was a magnitude 4.3, they quickly changed it a couple of minutes later, saying that the tremor was a 4.5.

No reports of damage after the Hawaii earthquake 2014 struck were recorded so far, and Hawaii County Civil Defense Director Darryl Oliviera says this is not actually surprising.

Oliviera even quips that moderate earthquakes are not really that "uncommon" for Hawaii.

A Waimea grocery store employee who was asked by local reporters about the earthquake said that it wasn't at all that strong since no apparent damage could be seen afterwards.

The employee further explained that the grumble didn't knock any of the shelves inside the grocery store where he works.

A Kelsey Walker gushed that the tremor felt like a "little jolt" and nothing more.

Meanwhile, the Hawaii earthquake 2014 comes just a couple of hours prior to the landing of two hurricanes that are fast approaching the said country.

Hurricane Iselle is said to be on its way to hit the Big Island Thursday night while Hurricane Julio will follow in suit. The latter is expected to be a Category 2 storm.

Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie said the state is quite prepared to face the back-to-back storms, adding that the National Guard is already prepared while state and local governments have already implemented the temporary closing of offices, schools, and transit services, WJLA has learned.

"We have a hurricane. Now we have this on top of it. What else?" Walker mused.
