Andrew Bynum is reportedly looking for another chance to play in the National Basketball Association, and he's scheduled to work out with the Los Angeles Clippers - the rival team of his former ball club the Los Angeles Lakers.
Jorge Sedano of ESPN reported the L.A Clippers are set to work out Bynum along with former no.1 overall pick Greg Oden, ex-Brooklyn Nets center Andray Blatche and former Rookie of the Year Emeka Okafor this coming week.
"Clippers to work out back up Centers this week. Names that will come thru: Andray Blatche, Greg Oden, Andrew Bynum & Emeka Okafor,' Sedano posted on his Twitter account.
Bynum, who has played sparingly for the past two seasons since he was traded in a four-team blockbuster trade in 2012, is surprisingly drawing interest from teams despite showing questionable behaviour during his stint with the Philadelphia 76ers, Cleveland Cavaliers and the Indiana Pacers.
Before the Clippers' interest was reported, there are rumours about the New York Knicks trying to make a gamble on the former All-Star center. However, president of basketball operations Phil Jackson provided a lukewarm comment on that idea.
"If he's healthy, Phil will be interested,'' Bynum's agent David Lee told The Post. "Phil knew how to tap into Andrew. They got along famously.''
Lee also disclosed that Bynum considers skipping the 2014-15 season to undergo lengthy rehab in Germany under the Regenokine Program.
Here's an excerpt of the report by NY York Post writer Marc Berman:
"Andrew Bynum for 2015? The 7-foot Bynum may not be reuniting with Phil Jackson's Knicks or any other team next season because he is seriously contemplating sitting out 2014-15 to undergo the Germany-based knee therapy called "The Regenokine Program'' that would require an extra long rehab, according to his agent David Lee. But he could be in play for the following season.
"Regenokine is a non-surgical program that promotes new cartilage growth through a series of injections. The FDA still hasn't approved it in the United States. Bynum is considering doing the program with well-known doctor German doctor Peter Wehling, who worked with Kobe Bryant and Alex Rodriguez. It is similar but not identical to the PRP procedure."
Why Lakers Should Try Getting Bynum Back?
Before being bothered by arthritic knees, Bynum was one of the most dominant centers in the league. During the 2011-2012 season, the former 10th overall pick in 2005 averaged career-highs in points (18.7 points), rebounds (11.8 boards) and games played (60 games), earning him his first All-Star appearance.
Though he won't be as dominant as he was before, Bynum could provide the so far under-sized Lakers frontline a much needed beef in the interior. The Lakers have Carlos Boozer, Ed Davis, Jordan Hill and Robert Sacre, but not one of these studs could give what Bynum provides on the table when healthy.
Bynum is a gamble for Mitch Kupchak and company. Still, it's tempting to think of having Bynum back in full-force in a purple-and-gold jersey. The frontline of Bynum, Boozer, and possibly Michael Beasley would be a solid trio to start for a rebuilding Lakers franchise.
