"A Wrinkle In Time" is a classic children's book, and "Frozen" writer Jennifer Lee has signed on to write a screenplay for Disney based on it. According to Variety, Lee wrote and co-directed "Frozen" with Chris Buck.
Still, many are questioning if the movie adaptation for "A Wrinkle In Time" will beat the record-breaking success of "Frozen"?
"A Wrinkle In Time" is a Madeline L'Engle fantasy published in 1962. The beloved children's novel tells the tale of two siblings and a friend traveling throughout time and space in search of their missing astrophysicist father.
According to Time, "A Wrinkle In Time" was one of Lee's favourite books while growing up.
"A Wrinkle in Time", being one of Lee's favourites as a child, helped her to easily impress Disney executives with her take on the project. According to Variety, Lee's version of "A Wrinkle in Time" emphasizes a strong female-driven tale and focuses on the science fiction part of the book in a most creative way.
According to Hollywood Life, Variety first reported on the story of the announcement with Jennifer's involvement with "A Wrinkle in Time" adaptation exclusively.
Variety also said that while Lee is adapting "A Wrinkle in Time," she will continue being part and parcel of Walt Disney Animation's story trust. Lee will also reportedly remain active in projects currently in development at the division that scored with "Frozen."
According to reports, "Frozen" has been Dinsey's biggest hit at the box office ever. It garnered almost $1.3 billion.
Together with Lee, "A Wrinkle in Time" will be produced by Jim Whitaker and Catherine Hand.
Meanwhile, there is no word yet of a director for the movie.
Whitaker recently produced Disney's "The Odd Life of Timothy Green." The producer's portfolio also includes "American Gangster" and "Robin Hood." In the meantime, Hand had produced the "A Wrinkle in Time" TV movie for ABC which aired in 2003.
Lee reportedly also co-wrote Disney's "Wreck-It Ralph." She is repped by CAA and Code Entertainment.
According to Time, Jeff Stockwell, screenplay writer for "Bridge to Terabithia", previously tackled "A Wrinkle In Time" during the project's first announcement in 2010. During that time, there was no producer who has signed on to the project yet.
"A Wrinkle in Time" is L'Engle's first book in the "Time Quartet" series. The series also includes "A Wind in the Door," "Many Waters," and "A Swiftly Tilting Planet."
