Christina Hendricks Reminisces about her High School Days; Bullying Inspired Hendricks to Enter Theater

Christina Hendricks did not like her high school days at all. Her family moved to Twin Falls, Idaho when she was only 13 years old. They had to make the move because of her father's job with the United States Forest Service. Because of the transfer, Christina Hendricks had to start all over at a new school, Fairfax High.

Christina Hendricks stood out. Christina Hendricks' common fashion involved Birkenstocks and hippie dresses. However, she was surprised when she saw other girls her age carrying purses. She has always thought that only adult ladies carried purses around with them. Christina Hendricks said, as reported by The Guardian, "They were much more sophisticated and they were having sex and wearing make-up, all these things that had not happened for me."

Apparently, Christina Hendricks was bullied since day one. She shared, "We had a locker bay and every time I went down there to get books out of my locker people would sit on top and spit at me. So, I had to have my locker moved because I couldn't go in there. I felt scared in high school. It was like Lord of the Flies. There was always some kit getting pummeled and people cheering."

Christina Hendricks then found her sanctuary in the theater department. Acting served as an outlet for her whenever she felt angry. She then ventured with gothic interests, opting to dye her black and purple. She even shaved it at the back. To make the gothic look complete, she wore only leather jackets and Doc Marten boots that were up to her knees.

Christina Hendricks continued to share and said, "My parents would say, 'You're just alienating everyone. You'll never make any friends looking like that.' And I would say, 'I don't want those people to be my friends. I'm never going to be friends with people who beat up a kid while everyone is cheering them on. I hate them."
