The Houston Rockets revived their interest in getting back Goran Dragic after losing backup point guard Jeremy Lin in a trade this offseason, a source close to situation reported on Sunday.
The 28-year old Dragic bagged the Most Improved Player of the Year after averaging 20.3 points, 5.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game for the Suns, who surprised the Western Conference by getting 48 wins last season.
Coming off a strong year, it's understandable that the Suns are getting all sorts of trade offers for the Slovenian playmaker. However, the Suns front office remains astute to keep their backcourt nucleus along with Eric Bledsoe intact for another grind next season.
Since the start of the free-agency period, there are rumors circulating that the Indiana Pacers are trying to get Dragic in a trade to bolster their backcourt. And with a horrific injury to Paul George, the Pacers are expected to push harder in acquiring a very good point guard like Dragic on the trading front.
"According to Pro Basketball Talk and ESPN.com reporter Marc Stein write that the Pacers would love to grab Dragic, but right now there is no movement on the deal," via Sports World Report.
But aside from the Pacers, the Rockets are reportedly interested to re-acquire Dragic, who used to play in Houston. Dragic played two solid seasons with the Rockets before he re-joined the Suns on a four-year, $30 million deal.
"ESPN.com reporter Marc Stein writes that Dragic is a target for the Pacers to upgrade over George Hill, while the Rockets may look at a deal after trading away Jeremy Lin to help Patrick Beverley," according to Sports World Report.
The Rockets are in desperate move to acquire more firepower in their backcourt after losing Lin in a trade with the Lakers. Lin averaged just 12 points and 4 dimes in a backup role last season, but he's the team's offensive spark off the bench throughout the 2013-14 season.
Aside from the Asian-American star, Houston also lost Chandler Parsons to the Dallas Mavericks but they immediately replaced him with veteran swingman Trevor Ariza. Dragic's ability to score and dish passes would be a great boost for a Rockets team that was obliterated by the high-octane Portland Trail Blazers in their six-game first-round series last year.
The Rockets, with James Harden and Dwight Howard as their anchors, are a piece away to contend for a championship, and analysts believed Dragic could be that guy they are looking for.
