The 2014 Commonwealth Games heads into its sixth day with 27 gold medals up for grabs in athletics, swimming, cycling, gymnastics, shooting, lawn balls and squash on Monday in Glasgow, Scotland.
After five days of competition, Australia remains on top of the medal tally with 26 golds, 21 silvers and 26 bronze for a total of 73 medals. England checked in at second place with 24 gold, 17 silver and 17 bronze while host nation Scotland placed at third with 11 gold, 8 silver and 11 bronze.
Perennial Commonwealth Games powerhouse Australia only has 5 gold, 5 silvers and 8 bronze so far, but the African nation pulled off the most shocking upset on Day 5 after it's rugby sevens team dethroned New Zealand 17-12 to win the gold medal.
The Kiwis entered the competition with a goal of becoming a five-time rugby sevens champion, but the South Africans spoiled the fun with a strong performance throughout the tournament.
"This feeling is the greatest," Springbok playmaker Afrika told AFP after their breakthrough win in Ibrox. "We as South Africans are so proud. Rugby is our national sport, we always strive to be the best in the world.
"The Commonwealth Games is a one-off tournament. As a squad we want to take this forward to the Rio Olympics. I know we have made the people back home proud."
New Zealand captain DJ Forbes expressed his disappoint for a big letdown in rugby sevens, thought she felt proud that he was part of the team that dominated the sport in four Commonwealth Games.
"It's disappointing. For maybe 10 or 11 minutes of that 20-minute final we were just a little bit off pace. Forbes told the press. "They put pressure on us but we had a chance to win the game. But it didn't go to plan and that's rugby."
"We are part of the legacy that has gone before us -- we'd never been beaten. As a country we have a lot of chances to win medals but as a New Zealand rugby player it is disappointing to come second."
Day 6 at the Commonwealth Games
Seven gold medals are at stake in Athletics, including the men's and women's 100 meter sprint. Action also heats up on the badminton court as Malaysia and England contest for the gold medal in mixed doubles competition.
Will Australia's dominance continue in the pool? That's the big question everybody should find out in swimming, where 8 gold medals are up for grabs.
