Jeremy Lin is excited to start next season with the Los Angeles Lakers. The man known as Linsanity has been introduced as the newest member of the purple-and-gold family in a press conference on Thursday.
Lin, who was acquired by the Lakers in a trade with the Houston Rockets, couldn't hide his joy of being part of the Lakers. In fact, he believed a great amount of pressure has been lifted from his shoulders, once he knew he's going to Los Angeles.
The former Harvard hot shot stressed that he's not going to relive the Linsanity buzz he generated in New York two years ago, but promised to rewrite history once more by playing a better brand of basketball.
"I put a lot of pressure on myself to be that player. Now, my goal is I'm not trying to be a player from the past.
"I'm trying to make history again. It's not so much me trying to be something that happened beforehand. I'm trying to look into the future and be a much better and bigger player than before."
Lin, who averaged 12 points and 4 assists last season with the Rockets, also admitted that Kobe Bryant is already communicating to him and even texted him a strong message concerning the upcoming season.
"We'd exchange texts," Lin said of his Bryant's text messages in the press conference. "I was in Shanghai at the time, we've talked a little bit here or there. The one thing he told me is we have a lot of work to do and I think that's 100 percent accurate. As long as we come in with that mindset of really having to work and earn everything, I think we'll be okay.
After playing with Carmelo Anthony in New York and James Harden in Houston, Lin said he's looking forward to learn from another incredible player in Bryant, whom he viewed as a player 'who's been there and done that.'
"I'm excited to learn from him, to be honest, and see how he approaches things. I've made my own structure and rhythm to what my workouts look like for the season, but I'd like to see what his look like as well," Lin added.
There are reports that Lin will bring back the no.17 jersey he used to wear back in New York after sporting the no.7 uniform with the Rockets last two seasons.
