Most people love traveling the world. Visiting major cities, checking out traditional cultures, and getting to meet people with vastly different upbringing and opinions. What isn't fun is going to some of these places and being accosted by the locals because of a social faux pas you had never heard of. Here are some great travel books to help those uncomfortable situations.
NYC Basic Tips and Etiquette by Nathan Pyle
New York city is an incredible place to visit. There is plenty of historical buildings to visit, shows to see, and restaurants to eat at. What tourists may not fully realize is that the city is fast paced and the people are even faster, and if they aren't trying to get you out of their way they may be trying to scam you. What started as an animated guide by a redditor became a fully fledged illustrated book full of humor, tips and advice. It's available in physical or digital copy the book is a must have for potential tourists.
Pocket London by Rick Steves
Who better to take advice from than someone who travel is their profession. Rick Steves has been traveling throughout Europe for decades. When he isn't busy researching for his new books he is in the midst of filming his television show or hosting his weekly radio show Travel with Rick Steves. The book has advice for all sorts of travelers from the weekend visitors to the weeklong tourists. Filled with places to eat, buildings to visit, and neighborhood overviews this pocket guide has it all, and if London isn't your choice destination he has books for all over Europe.
DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: Beijing and Shanghai by DK Publishing
This one is from a major publishing house so while it may not have as much heart as the other two, it more than makes up for it by reputation and information. Like many DK Publishing books it is full of images and references to help the fresh young tourist visit an unfamiliar location. Full color pictures, floor plans, cutaways, and reconstructions of the architecture from the two cities the book makes everything available. It also has street maps and insider information on how to find your way around these popular sights.
