Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, the enigmatic WWE superstar turned highest-grossing actor of 2013, confirmed in an interview with Total Film will be playing a superhero character for DC universe.
Johnson, whose electrifying moves inside the squared circle catapulted him into becoming a transcendental star, said that he's going to play a major role for DC comics, and he stressed that this character features some of Superman's out-of-this world abilities such as super strength and peerless speed.
The Rock didn't specifically unveiled the DC character he is about to portray, but rumblings around the comic universe suggested that he might play as the superhero Shazam.
While it's true that the Rock's DC role isn't as popular as its stable-mates like Superman and Batman, Shazam's intriguing backstory and Johnson's in-your-face attitude would help the film surpass lay-low expectations.
This isn't the first time DC attempted to hook up with the Rock to play one of their superheroes. A year ago, there are rumors about a possible revival of the Green Lantern, which hasn't gained much followings at the gates and among movie critics.
DC top-brasses were hoping the Rock's hardcore appeal would give more vibrancy to the character, though the pipe-dream project met its demise when it was eventually shelved.
With Shazam all set to fly after the release of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016, DC suddenly has a tasty movie in store right away in the wake of a Superman-Batman flick bound to match the success of Marvel Comics' the Avengers.
Possible Role with the Justice League
Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is seen by movie pundits as a film that would provide the framework of a series of DC standalone and team-up flicks. As early as now, DC confirmed movie projects featuring Aquaman, Superman, Batman and Wonderwoman.
The Rock, who is set to hit big in the big screen with his upcoming surefire blockbuster film Hercules, could make his presence felt as Shazam in the Dawn of Justice to give fans a sneak peak of what to expect in the character who originally sported the name of Captain Marvel.
As another great development unfolds, it's truly a high time for comic fanatics to celebrate as they see their childhood heroes getting reincarnated in movies one-by-one. For them, they called this period as a comic book Renaissance.
