Shark Chokes on Sea Lion and Mercilessly Dies Due to Air Blockage off Coronation Beach, Australia

Shark chokes on sea lion and dies. It looks like the great white shark bit off more than it could chew. The shark choked to death as it attempted to swallow a massive sea lion, which happens to be their favorite meal.

Videos and pictures were taken while the monster shark kept thrashing about near Coronation Beach, which is located in the northern part of the Geraldton, a town in West Australia. The huge body of the sea lion that was its latest meal could not completely pass through its system, preventing the shark to get air. The great white shark was spotted restless as it tried so hard to dislodge the food that was blocking its airway, but, sadly, to no avail.

However, the crowd that took pictures and videos of this incident had no idea at the time that the shark chokes on sea lion. It was the inspectors from the Fisheries Department who found out that it was a sea lion that was jammed in its throat, blocking the animal's airway. The Fisheries Department only got the shark in their hands when it died eventually and was brought to the shore. They did not even think for one second that a sea lion stuck down its throat was its cause of death. That is, until they finally opened up the shark and found it.

Back when the great white shark chokes on sea lion, dozens of beachgoers were attracted and went to approach the shark, although not as close as they would have wanted. However, as soon as the recorded video of the shark chokes on sea lion was posted on YouTube, it immediately got over 17,000 views.

As reported by WAtoday, Dr. Rory McAuley, a research scientist, found that the autopsy revealed no other causes of death, such as injury or disease, but did surprisingly reveal a huge sea lion that was stuck inside the shark chokes on sea lion's throat. He said, "This could explain why the shark was exhibiting such unusual behavior in shallow waters off Coronation Beach. It is possible that the shark was trying to dislodge the blockage."
