Lay's Cappuccino Chips [PHOTOS]: Part Of New Flavours Headed For Stores

The Los Angeles Times reports that the person who submitted the winning flavor will win $1 million, apart from have his or her flavor sold nationally. Cheesy Garlic Bread reportedly won the contest last year since it had more fans than the Sriracha and Chicken & Waffles.

The contest not only engages patrons in connecting with the company, but according to the AP, it is also a reflection of how Frito-Lay is trying to keep up with the changing palates of consumers. It's not only Lay's cappuccino chips that seem different, but over the years, the company has dappled with other potato chip flavors including several Hispanic ones.

Later this month, the Huff Post said that the company also plans to roll out Lay's Stax chips in a Korean barbecue flavour and Lay's Stax in Thai Sweet Chili flavour. This would make them the first Asian flavours of Lay's chips sold in the U.S. nationally, even discounting other flavours introduced as part of the "Do Us a Flavor" contest.

Last year, Cheesy Garlic Bread reportedly beat out Chicken & Waffles and Sriracha, a sauce commonly used for Thai food.

Ram Krishnan, Frito-Lay's senior vice-president of brand marketing said, 'I can't imagine us 10 years ago doing a wasabi ginger flavour.'

The introduction of these new flavours, such as the Lay's cappuccino chips, is definitely more creative than the previous original flavours.

Lay's cappuccino chips popularity, as well as other ethnic flavours, still reportedly do not affect the saleability of Lay's top four - Original, Barbecue, Cheddar & Sour Cream and Sour Cream & Onion.
