Conor Oberst Tour: Conor Oberst Files Libel against Fan who Claims Oberst Raped Her; Fan Has Now Retracted Statement

Conor Oberst tour ticket sales could be affected with the rumor that is surrounding the Bright Eyes front man, Conor Oberst. According to a complaint from Joanie Faircloth, Conor Oberst allegedly sexually assaulted her. She posted such allegation as a comment on an XOJane article. However, she has now retracted her comment and has said that she only made that story up.

It was in February that Conor Oberst, despite being busy with his Conor Oberst tour, had decided to file a libel lawsuit against Faircloth. He called her accusations "absolutely, unequivocally false." Now, Faircloth has asked for forgiveness with a statement that she publicized through Buzzfeed.

Her statement said, "The statement I made and repeated online and elsewhere over the past six months accusing Conor Oberst of raping me are 100% false. I made up those lies about him to get attention while I was going through a difficult period in my life and trying to cope with my son's illness. I publicly retract my statements about Conor Oberst and sincerely apologize to him, his family and his fans for writing such awful things about him. I realize that my actions were wrong and could undermine the claims of actual sexual assault victims and for that I also apologize. I'm truly sorry for the pain that I caused."

Conor Oberst requested that Faircloth recant the statement she made in February. The lawyers hired by Conor Oberst said, "The only connection between Oberst and Faircloth was one of artist and fan - a fan who has posted laudatory comments about Oberst elsewhere online, including describing attending his band's concert as the 'Best memory ever.'"

A representative from Conor Oberst's side has stated that the singer is presently occupied with his Conor Oberst tour and could not give out a comment right away.
