Melanie Griffith seems to be on a streak to get rid of her past love life. The 56-year-old actress has just finalized a divorce from her ex-husband Antonio Banderas only earlier this year. Melanie Griffith has decided to permanently erase her tattoo that most likely kept reminding her of her marriage with Banderas.
Griffith has submitted to laser treatment in order to get rid of the dark tattoo on her right bicep that read, "Antonio." Melanie Griffith was not shy at all in showing the progress of the tattoo removal. She has been out and about the city, and her tattoo was noticeably starting to fade.
On the 7th of July, Monday, Griffith was seen wearing a white bandage covering the area where her tattoo used to be. Perhaps it is already starting to heal and her doctor has advised to keep it covered and away from bacteria and dirt.
The 53-year-old "Mask of Zorro" star married Griffith in May of 1996. The couple later had a daughter they named Stella, who is now 17 years old. They have been married for 18 years, and it was only in June that the couple has finally released a statement that confirmed the end of their marriage. In the same week that they made the announcement, Melanie Griffith attended an event with her "Antonio" tattoo on full show. Now, however, she has probably realized it is time to remove whatever reminded her of her romantic past.
Melanie Griffith and Antonio Banderas said in their statement, "We have thoughtfully and consequently decided to finalize our almost 20-year marriage in a loving and friendly manner honoring and respecting each other, our family, and friends and the beautiful time we have spent together."
A source informed Us Weekly that the couple decided to end their marriage since they are no longer in love with one another. According to the source, "There was no cheating on either side. They had fallen out of love a while ago. Their daughter Stella is about to be 18 in September and they wanted to wait until the kids were grown and out of the house before they split up, but they knew they would a while ago. They stayed together for the sake of the kids."
