Soccer ref dies after being punched in the head during an adult match on Sunday.
The 44 year-old avid soccer fan and amateur referee passed away on Tuesday after sustaining a blow to the head during an adult league. Police have responded to a 911 call telling that a man was knocked down and not waking up. Identified as John Bieniewicz, the man was allegedly attacked after trying to eject one player off the match.
Bieniewicz was identified as an avid soccer fan and also an amateur referee who sometimes, officiates three games during the weekend. What happened on Sunday was a complete shock to the people and to his family. The suspect, identified as the 36 year-old Baseel Abdul-Amir Saad had pleaded not guilty and is about to face the court for a trial on July 10 while he is currently on bail for $500,000.
According to the woman who called the authorities regarding the soccer ref who dies after being punched also added that he was punched with Saad's fist and that the suspect tried to escape from the scene just before police could arrive. She also detailed that he was raising his middle finger to the spectators while leaving the scene. Saad was first charged of assault with intent to do great bodily harm, but now that the soccer ref already died after being punched, it is expected that the degree of his charges will be increased.
Before the soccer ref dies from being punched, it was known that he was attempted to be revived by everyone around him as they try to do CPR; however, Bieniewicz was still unable to make it. A supervisor from Mott Children's Hospital said that he was already in a critical condition when he arrived. He is survived by his wife and two sons and is remembered as a great man.
