Power Forward 2.0 Study Shows it's Possible to Make Money by Going Green

Renewable energy, environmental conservation, and reducing humanities carbon footprint has always been a hot topic for businesses. The stigma has always been that becoming environmentally friendly is an expensive endeavor that will cost the company more money than their willing to spend. What has been proven by a study called Power Forward 2.0 is that companies are saving money by moving to clean energy.

The point of the Power Forward series is to analysis the clean energy and climate targets that US Fortune 500 companies have made. Along with looking at these companies goals the series determines how much money has been saved, advise potential businesses and policy makers in how to use renewable energy, and to encourage companies of any size and make to commit to diminishing their own pollutions.

It's hard to imagine how switching to a form of energy that is not widely used yet can reduce costs, but there are a number of avenues that it does help. By switching to renewable energy companies can offset their energy bills from sources like coal or oil. These companies also gain the benefit of having institutional investors, groups of investors that put money towards companies that can fulfill certain goals that they support, invest in them. Competition for these investors can also create a rise in clean energy as companies vie for their attention.

Among all of the statistics and numbers in the report, the most stunning of them might be the amount of money saved by switching to clean energy. From the Fortune 100 a staggering 1.1billion dollars was saved in one year. This meant that, on average, each company was able to save 36,000 dollars per clean energy project started. Many of these companies, including such groups as Wal-Mart, American Express, and Boeing were able to exceed their targets.

This study is a breath of fresh air in a world where big businesses are threatening the world with deforestation and oil fraking. These companies are proving that it is possible to go green, while keeping their own profits on the rise. Hopefully with this study more companies will realize not only the benefit but the importance of taking up clean energy and becoming green.
