Michael Strahan Donates $100,000 to Alma Mater’s Marching Band “Ocean of Soul”

Michael Strahan, an alumnus from the Texas Southern University, has decided to give back to his alma mater. Since he had graduated from the university, Strahan has been making a bit of a career, kicked off by his NFL stardom, and eventually entering into the realm of live television.

He has stated his interests in donating $100,000 to the college's "Ocean of Soul" marching band. He made his official announcement regarding his donation on "LIVE with Kelly and Michael" on Tuesday.

The students will be using this money for traveling to Canton, Ohio in order to play for Strahan's induction to the Hall of Fame of Pro Football. According to Eva Pickens, TSU's Associate Vice President, "Ocean of Soul" reportedly only required the amount of $150,000 in 30 days, but with Strahan's generous gift, as well as a $50,000 donation from known comedian Kevin Hart, has largely helped the band. Pickens said, "If we surpass our goal, monies will be used for scholarships to band students."

Strahan stated that he would not allow Hart to be the only one to make a donation. He said during his interview on Tuesday, "I can't let Kevin do it all alone. So, I'm going to give them $100,000. Thank you, Kevin, for the $50,000, and I'll give the hundred and we'll get the band there and hopefully the kids will have a great time. And I appreciate all the support."

Richard Lee, the band director of "Ocean of Soul" said, "This is an exciting opportunity and we'll be seen by a number of people that have never seen this band before. So, we want to make sure we give them an excellent performance as we always do."

Darius Harris, the band's drum major said, "We have a special edge. We bring things out to light that other bands cannot bring."

The ceremony for Pro Football Hall of Fame will be celebrated on the 2nd of August.
