Stolen phones may soon be useless for the thieves as Google and Microsoft recently decided to incorporate into their Android and Windows phone's operating system the one of the most helpful feature known as the "kill switch".

As the incidence for theft of smartphones continues to rise globally, it definitely becomes a problem. Users of the said phones are actually facing the great dilemma since there is a huge risk that at some point that their phones may be stolen; then, the thieves will surely gain access with their personal data which could include very sensitive info. With that growing case, two of the known companies have come up with a decision of getting their Android and Windows phone a kill switch feature.

The said highly significant feature will be soon added to the operating system of the phones in order to help its users in terms of security purposes. According to New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, the commitment of both Google and Microsoft are gigantic steps to promote safety of the consumers and even depicts the effectiveness of the said OS feature. It is then believed that this step will eventually shorten the number of smartphones theft.

Before the two gigantic companies even came up with the decision of introducing the kill switch feature into their Android and Windows phones, other companies were already using it just like the Apple. It was also believed that it showed a decrease of robberies involving Apple's iPhones. 19-20 percent of the robberies concerning iPhones have dramatically dropped.

The kill switch feature for Android and Windows phone will allow the owner of the phone to disable the phone or lock the personal data if it is lost or stolen. While the use of Apple of the said feature caused the iPhone theft to decrease, crime rates for Samsung on the other hand has increased up to 40 percent since its phones have no kill switch feature.

Android and Windows' kill switch feature will eventually protect the consumers' safety in a way that their specific and sensitive data will not be exposed. It is also believed that the only way to disable the protective feature is to physically damage the phone which means thieves will no longer benefit from the stolen phone.
