The USA seemed to have started the 2014 World Cup on a good foot. Clint Dempsey was able to push the American team in a good position after only 35 seconds into the game.
However after 20 minutes, Jozy Altidore seemed to have gotten off on the wrong foot as he is spotted grabbing his left leg in pain. He started to writhe in pain after chasing a long ball and it turned out to be a hamstring strain that was bothering him. This put an immediate end to his participation in the game, if not in the entire World Cup series for this year.
The crowd shouted Landon Donovan's name in the midst of it all, but, sadly, Donovan was not around to make an entrance. In his stead, Jurgen Klinsmann decided to send in Aron Johansson into the field.
According to sports analysts, Donovan would have been a better partner for Dempsey as compared to Johansson or Wondolowski. In fact, they believe that Klinsmann's decision to keep Donovan out of the game would end up haunting him.
Donovan had already given his statement regarding this issue and he said in his statement that he believed he was not only one of the 23 best players to represent America, but he could also challenge for a starting spot. He gave this statement right after he found out that he was omitted from the American team. Klinsmann may regret the day that he decided to keep him out of the picture.
The Ghana players took the game in their own hands and kept attacking on Tim Howard's goal. The USA, quite known for the team's impressive counterattacks, obviously struggled to come up with their own chances at Ghana's goal. Johansson, a 23-year-old striker, with only less than 10 international games to his name, barely even touched the ball.
