A JetBlue flight was forced to make an emergency landing in Detroit due to an unruly passenger that caused a scene. The incident was caught on video.
The incident took place on Flight 211 from New York. The flight was supposed to go to Las Vegas, but the unruly passenger started to act out about 90 minutes into the early morning flight, ABC reports.
The passenger started to yell harsh words at his family members. He got increasingly upset and the incident grew even bigger. The man stood up and started to bang on the seats on the plane. A male flight attendant on board asked the passenger to calm down and sit back down, but he refused. The passenger didn't seem to speak english. The man continued to scream and even swung at the flight attendants. Additional crew members stepped in to assist and they were eventually able to calm the man down. One flight attendant used a sleeper hold to subdue the man while another tied his hands.
The crew brought the man to the back of the plane and he was restrained there so he wouldn't be able to harass any other passengers.
A passenger on the flight said that the man had been sleeping and it seemed that he all of a sudden woke up from a nightmare and lost it.
About 30 minutes after the incident, the flight made an emergency landing in Detroit. The man was removed from the flight without any further issue and was taken into custody. He was brought by police to Oakwood Hospital in Wayne. Michigan.
JetBlue released a statement about the incident, saying, "due to a customer issue, the captain elected to divert to Detroit this morning in an abundance of caution."
After about two hours on the ground, the flight with the remaining passengers continued on to Las Vegas.
