WWE’s Pat Patterson: “I Survived All This, Being Gay”

Wrestling legend Pat Patterson has just made the biggest revelation of his life. Patterson, 73 years old, came out as gay on "Legend's House" Thursday, June 12. This show is a reality show of WWE Network, and he selected this show as his means of telling the public that he had kept his sexual orientation a secret for decades. Patterson shared his struggle, which is now no longer a burden, with his fellow pro-wrestling buddies.

Patterson said, "Sitting here tonight, I'm gonna say something that I would never want to say, publicly. For once in my life, I'm gonna be me now." He started to tear up and continued, "I survived all this, being gay." As he finally said the three-letter word, Patterson sobbed and kept wiping his face with a napkin. He added, "I lived with that for 50-something years. I had a friend with me for 40 years and I lost him because he had a heart attack. It's tough guys. It was tough."

Patterson's friends were very expressive of their support for him. They kept saying, "We love you, Pat." During his confessional, Patterson explained he chose now to make his revelation. He said, "I gave my life to the business. I don't regret nothing. For the rest of my life, I want to be happy."

According to the WWE Network website, Patterson came from a poor family in Quebec. It was around this time that Patterson decided to join the organization. He was the first "Intercontinental Champion" of WWE, and this served as his key to wrestling success. Patterson later became famous for his signature move, the "atomic drop." He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.

At present, Patterson is still with WWE, but he no longer gets inside the ring. He now works for the network as a creative consultant.
