The entire patent for electric cars will be given away by its creator this 2014 with an effort to lessen the burden brought by gasoline-burning vehicles.
Tesla Motors as one of the known company to establish electronic vehicles has made a huge decision of sharing the patent in manufacturing such kind of vehicle. The company's CEO, Elon Musk, has promised to give away the patent with a condition of not fighting over intellectual property rights for the electric cars this 2014. Such decision of allowing other companies to use their patents also opens collaboration with other companies.
"If we clear a path to the creation of compelling electric vehicles, but then lay intellectual property landmines behind us to inhibit others, we are acting in a manner contrary to that goal" Musk wrote in his blog in the company's website.
If other companies will start using its patent and also decides to create electric cars this 2014 then there's a possibility that such kind of vehicle could dominate the streets; however, a concern like the charging area is being raised by potential car users. With that, Tesla already discussed a potential Supercharger partnership with BMW, The Guardian reported. The motor company already has 100 Supercharger stations across North America and Europe which gives power for its electronic-driven vehicles.
Other stations are also being planned to accommodate electric cars in China and Japan this year. According to the report, the technology will be replenished half of its life within 20 minutes of charging time. Other electric car making company such as the Nissan remains silent about tesla's announcement.
The Tesla Motors had been reportedly issued 203 patents this 2014 covering its batteries and other features which distinguish its electric cars from the gasoline-powered vehicles. The patents that will be shared by Tesla with its rivals is about to expire in 2026.
