Trevolta: New Crowdfunding Website Helps People Raise Money for Travel

Have you ever wanted to go on a unique trip, but didn't have the money for it? There's a new crowdfunding site that can help make your travel dreams come true.

A South Africa-based company has started a crowdfunding travel website so those with big, meaningful travel dreams, can raise money through the help of strangers and friends to make those trips a reality, the Daily Mail reports.

The site, Trevolta, was started by CEO Mark Karimov. He says he started it to make travel more accessible and to use crowdfunding as a way to make these dream tips come true. "The idea is to make travels more accessible to people. It's not a secret that most people don't travel because it's expensive," Karimov said according to the Daily Mail. "At Trevolta we allow people to raise funds for their travels using crowdfunding and sponsorships. Friends, family, inspired people can back the trip and make it a reality."

Some users seem to just want to take trips for fun like a trip to Route 66, while some are very ambitious, like a trip to feed the homeless in ten European countries.

"Some travels are really inspirational and travellers go on a journey not for themselves, but for other people - volunteering, charity, etc," Karimov said. "Mostly travels are not about destination, it's about the process, about the impact and about making a difference either on your life or in someone else's. Today technology allows us to raise funds for all of that and more - connect with people and tell your story. Crowdfunding for travellers is one of those stories."

Those who start a campaign on Trevolta have between 10 and 90 days to raise the money. However unlike other crowdfunding sites that only give you the money if you reach a specific goal, Trevolta users get to keep the money no matter what they raise. However Trevolta keeps five percent and another 3.9 percent goes to Paypal.

The site launched in January and already has 436,000 users that were able to raise £46,000 or $77,000 so far.

Trevolta has earned some money, but Karimov is hoping the site will really kick off soon.

"We will always stick to our vision - to make travels cheaper and accessible to everyone, so unless we find some gold mine, we will stick to finding the ways to increase our success stories," he said according to the Daily Mail. "Even after finding gold in a mine we're still probably going to fund some trips with it. Because nothing that you buy actually makes you richer - only travels."
