JK Rowling Does Not Want an Independent Scotland; Donates £1 Million to a Campaign Against Scottish Independence

JK Rowling, known author of the international bestseller series "Harry Potter", has made a huge donation amounting to £1 million to help fund an ongoing campaign against Scottish independence.

Rowling, who presently resides in Edinburgh, is a loyal supporter of the Better Together campaign. She gave her reasons on her website and explained that there was a hovering "denial of risks" within the YES campaign. She also continued by saying that there was a "fringe of nationalists who like to demonize anyone who is not blindly and unquestionable pro-independence."

Registered Scottish voters are bound to go to the polls on the 18th of September to make a decision with regards to the future of their nation. They have to choose between the answers YES and NO to the question "Should Scotland be an independent country?"

Born in South Gloucestershire, Rowling said that she did have friends who were on different sides of the present debate. She even stated that the YES campaign had a romantic outlook that, in her words, "strikes a chord."

However, she is still firm in her stand against Scottish independence and added, "My hesitance at embracing independence has nothing to do with lack of belief in Scotland's remarkable people or its achievements. The simple truth is that Scotland is subject to the same 21st century pressures as the rest of the world." Having said this, she continued, "It must compete in the same global markets, defend itself form the same threats and navigate what still feels like a fragile economic recovery."

The more Rowling listened to the statements made by the YES campaigners, the more she worried about the minimization and risks involved. She said, "Whenever the big issues are raised - our heavy reliance on oil revenue if we become independent, what currency we'll use, whether we'll get back into the EU - reasonable questions are drowned out by accusations of 'scaremongering.'"
