"Dancing with the Stars" Season 18 champions, Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, accepted the Mirrorball Trophy with much excitement. In an interview with Access Hollywood, Davis said, "I think we are equally as happy." In reference to her dance partner Chmerkovskiy, "I think we've gone through such an amazing journey, but it's been a much longer journey for him."
This victory is something that Chmerkovskiy, more popularly known as "Maks", has long been waiting for since he joined the competition in 2006, "It takes so much effort to get to this point that we're both equally happy," The Ukrainian professional dancer added, "For me, it's a long time coming. There are a lot of people that wanted to see this happen and I'm very happy that they finally get that."
Davis thanked their fans on Twitter with, "Thank you all for the incredible support. I'm completely overwhelmed. @MaksimC and I have been so fortunate to share this journey with you!"
The chemistry between the duo was clear during the duration of the show and Chmerkovskiy admitted in a rehearsal taped during the season's finale episode that he has always had the "hots" for the famous figure skater. Davis shared about their relationship, "We've developed a real-life friendship and just because the show ends, doesn't mean our relationship is gonna end."
Chmerkovskiy was asked if this recently concluded season is the last his fans will see of him, he replied, "I have no idea, but, you know, maybe. I can't do this for 20 years. There's not been a show that has been on the air that long. I was talking to Cheryl Burke yesterday, and, you know, she's done it 18 times. It's crazy to me."
Amy Purdy and Derek Hough, with the latter having won five times on the show, placed on a runner-up spot. Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas placed third, while James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd did not make the final 3 at all, something that their fans were not so thrilled about.
