Michigan Summer Festivals Worth Seeing

It's summer and that means it's time to enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. For folks out of Michigan this is the best chance they'll have to cram in as many activites as possible because the summer never seems to last. Here is a list of some of the best festivals and fairs to enjoy before the summer ends.

Traverse City Cherry Festival

Open from July 5th to the 12th the Traverse City Cherry Festival celebrates all things cherry, and then some. Located along Lake Michigan's Grand Traverse Bay the festival has everything from parades, game tents, family events, and live musicians. Each day has a different band like Collective Soul on the 5th or Justin Moore a few days later. What also can't be forgotten is the massive amount of cherry products that are being sold throughout the fair. You'll get everything from cherry flavored soda, cups of cherries, and even cherry flavored jam. There are seed spitting contests, beach volleyball tournaments, fireworks, and dozens of other ways to keep everyone you're with occupied.

Ann Arbor Arts Festival

With a town as varied as Ann Arbor the art festival is one of the best times to get out there and experience it all. Taking up almost half the city from July 16-19 the Ann Arbor Art Fair is actually a series of art fairs all being held at the same time. While each part is stationed of specific streets, everyone of them leads into the others and it is completely possible to view them all. Like other art fairs every tent or booth is selling their own original art. The types that can be seen their go from metal sculpture towering over the crowds to beautifully painted landscapes that shift with the light and everything in between. All the restaurants also get involved with special deals and outdoor seating. Even if you're not there to buy some art go to people watch, it's guaranteed that you'll see something new and interesting in the crowds each day.

Blissfest Music Festival

In Northern MI held in Harbor Springs from July 11-13 the folk festival known as Blissfest will be in full swing. The folk festival's mission is to promote and preserve the diversity of traditional and ethnic music, dance, and crafts. With that as their main goal the festival holds dozens of different tents that supply traditional foods, hold arts and crafts events, beer and wine tastings, and plenty of activities to keep children of any age entertained. This music festival will host people from all over the state and at various ages. There will be campers all over and it's almost expected to go from tent to tent and take the opportunity to meet new people.
