Penny Dreadful, a product of Sky Atlantic and Showtime collaboration, is scheduled to air 10 new episodes in 2015. This new horror drama is scheduled to continue production in Dublin later this year. The plot revolves around a trio of mismatched adventurers, portrayed by Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, and Timothy Dalton, as they battle Victorian London's dark forces.
David Nevins, Showtime Networks, Inc. president, states, "Picking up Penny Dreadful was one of the easiest decisions I've made. The series has had worldwide impact, drawing big, passionate audiences on both sides of the Atlantic, and more than any other show on our network has hit the bulls-eye with viewers who want to watch television in all the new ways that are available."
Stuart Murphy, director of Sky Entertainment, shares, "Penny Dreadful epitomizes the cinematic scale of drama we have come to expect from Sky Atlantic and we are really looking forward to continuing our partnership with David Nevins and Showtime."
This creation of Sam Mendes and John Logan is considered as "an epic series that has drawn raves from a wide range of audiences from quality drama lovers to critics, to hardcore genre fans." The show is not only a hit TV series in the United States, but it has also gained a lot of traction with a global audience, debuting as the "second-highest-rated launch for an original commission ever for Sky Atlantic." Today, this exalted horror show has inspired new interest with a long list of licensees. Cast and character action figures, branded Penny Dreadful tarot cards, and special edition boxed classic horror book sets are being sold in the market.
According to Nevins, the show's 1st season will be provided with a closure on the present main store arc, which is the hunt for Sir Malcom's (played by Dalton) lost daughter. Prior to the conclusion, there will also be a deeper exploration into the lives of the characters.
Penny Dreadful's first seasons will continue showing on Sky Atlantic. Previous episodes can be reviewed through Sky On Demand.
