Bristol Community College Student Hacks into Police Network, Gains Access to Intelligence Records

A student from Bristol Community College who allegedly hacked Paris Hilton's cellphone in 2005 and leaked incriminating pictures of her to the Internet, is now facing similar charges. Cameron Lacroix, 25, allegedly broke into Bristol Community College's computer network, as well as a law enforcement computer. Another accusation indicates he stole bank card data from over 14,000 bank account holders.

Today, he faces one count of access device fraud and two counts of computer intrusion. According to a report submitted in a press release by the US District Attorney, Lacroix has agreed to plead guilty to all of the charges and will be staying in prison for only four years, which will be followed with three years of parole.

Lacroix is not a beginner in this field. He was charged with 18 counts of crimes that were related to computer-hacking in 2008 alone, and served another 11 months in a juvenile detention center after he pled guilty to hacking into socialite Paris Hilton's cellphone. He was a juvenile at the time and he was regarded as the youngest member of the hacking circle that was responsible for consecutive electronic break-ins, such as breaking into the records of a telephone company in order to provide free wireless phone accounts for his friends.

Prosecutors have reiterated that Lacroix's hacking crimes are at a total of $1 million in damages. This is all prior to this week's accusations. He purposely hacked into the school's network in order to change his grades. Aside from that, he is also charged for the unlawful access to law enforcement computers that contain intelligence records, arrest warrants, and information on sex offenders. He also used his hacking skills in obtaining personal bank data in order to extort money.

The Department of Justice officials did not disclose any information about the local police department whose network was hacked into, nor did they provide any details on how Lacroix managed to steal personal bank records.
