College Town Bar Breakdown: 3 Categories, 3 Kinds of People

College towns are known for many different things, but the most talked about or revered is likely the drinking. Thanks to that reputation colleges have a wealth of different bars that cater to crowds from every walk of life. Each of these bars can be classified into three categories though; chain bars, city/school specific bars, and higher end bars.

Chain Bars

These are the places that you can see in any city that has a relatively active bar scene. Bar Louie and Buffalo Wild Wings are two very prominent chains for a drink. They're similar all around, have already established their brand, and can be expected to provided the same kind of service and drinks you'd find anywhere else. In the college town these places will often have deals or events tailored to draw in local crowd. If you're just looking for a good time with a few drinks and a mixed of college and older patrons these are the places to go.

City Specific Bars

Now the bars in this category have a tendency to get a little rowdy as they are most focused on drawing in the college student crowd more than any other. Sure they could have some good few and a wide selection of beers, but what's drawing all the students are the cheap pitchers and an eclectic shot list longer than your arm. They've got loud music playing and even louder patrons talking and laughing. By twelve in the morning students will still be stumbling in and stumbling out. These kinds of places can vary from hole in the wall hipster bars, to more mainstream pubs, and even local breweries. When visiting these bars prepare to feel like your back in school and partying with your friends.

High End Bars/Clubs

The final categories for bars to fall into often tend to be in a price bracket that the average student may not be able to handle, but their visiting parents might. Martini and whiskey bars would be the most common types of these, but they focus mainly on drinks. Other types are likely focus more on their food than their drinks, but even so they'll still make a mean Vesper cocktail. The quality of drinks from these businesses are of a much higher grade and quality than what will be found from the other two categories, but their prices remind you why they are so good. These crowds are most often full of adults with careers that want a quiet night to enjoy amongst themselves. If you're not dressed right you may even be denied entrance to some. From here expect soothing music, quiet conversations, and mood lighting.
