Vampire Burial Site Found In Poland: Vampires – Legend or History? [VIDEO]

Vampire burial site found in Poland may just have proven that vampires may have existed and not a thing of myths any longer. According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the vampire burial site found in Poland was located in the small town of Poland's Kamień Pomorski earlier this month.

Upon closer inspection of the vampire burial site found in Poland, one would get a glimpse of a modern day vampire hunter in what appears to be a vampire grave. Reports say that the person, or perhaps a creature inside the casket was given a full, vampire burial.

The vampire burial site found in Poland reveals the dead person with his or her teeth removed. A stake is placed through this person's body while a rock shard is planted within the mouth.

Surprisingly, this unusual vampire burial site found in Poland is not the first resting place of a suspected vampire found in the area.

According to CNN reports, "Last July, archaeologists uncovered four decapitated skeletons, their heads placed between their legs, at a construction site in Gliwice, southern Poland. The burials may sound gruesome, but they are befitting of early medieval Polish folklore's particularly grisly interpretation of the vampire myth."

Vampires from literature and history are traditionally characterized as pallid-faced and nocturnal creatures, with the ability for drinking blood. In more modern accounts however, vampires have been associated with sparkling skin and sappy teen-romance.

Professor Titus Hjelm for the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies at University College London said, "Specific to Polish vampires is that they are known for eating their own flesh and burial garments when they rise from the dead." This statement from Hjelm could explain the stone in the mouth and teeth-removal of the person from the vampire burial site found in Poland.

According to the professor, Polish people believed that vampires were born, and not made. This belief reportedly further stigmatizing the vampire legends. However, not everyone has been convinced or easily swayed to believe that the unconventional burial techniques found in burial grounds such as the vampire burial site found in Poland are for actual vampires. They could allegedly be nothing more than criminal graves, designed to punish wrongdoers after death.

Vampire burial site found in Poland may be a thing of legends, or it may be a thing of history. Still, these strange burial sites is continue to be uncovered throughout Poland. They are reportedly attributed to life and times of medieval Polish belief and rituals of the 16th century.
