2014 World Cup Song Scrutinized: How Mean Are The Mean Tweets Addressed to Pitbull, J.Lo's World Cup Song?

The World Cup song is always something that gets everyone into the spirit of the much-anticipated event; hence, it's not surprising that everyone has, in one way or another, checked how the 2014 official anthem sounds like. For the 2014 World Cup, Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte teamed up to make the anthem possible. However, it seems that the 'Waka Waka' hit maker, Shakira, is still proving to be more popular after she released another World Cup song 'La La La (Brazil 2014).'

The official FIFA World Cup 2014 song is 'We Are One (Ole Ola) by Cuban Pitbull, Puerto Rican Jennifer Lopez, and Brazilian Claudia Leitte. With the delightful mix of races, everyone expected an impressive anthem for the World Cup. However, instead of getting positive feedback, reports claim that many people, including Brazilians, are not at all impressed of the video and lyrics that are being described as a "big pile of clichés" and because the music has somehow failed in paying proper homage to Brazil's rich musical heritage.

As of writing, the 2014 World Cup song has more than 56 million views, over 200,000 likes and more than 65,000 dislikes. Yahoo! News claims "it's not a flop but not a great hit." After all, Shakira's 'Waka Waka' has gained 63,000 dislikes and over 920,000 likes, with 665 million views.

Without further ado, we give you some of the meanest tweets addressed to the FIFA World Cup 2014 song.

"Yes, @billboard ... the @pitbull and @JLo World Cup song is a flop because it SUCKS!!! #NoMorePitbull #VoltaWakaWaka," Tyler Williams wrote.

"This World Cup theme song is a big pile of clichés," 27-year-old Leka Perez, a DJ and music journalist tweeted.

""The song is terrible. If the World Cup is in Brazil, why two foreign singers and almost the entire song in English?" another one commented.

"We Are One has a Caribbean beat, not a Brazilian beat. Did they mix up where the World Cup is happening?" gushed a Loren Edelstein.

"Shakira's Waka Waka for 2010 World Cup was significantly peppier, cooler & catchier than Pitbull's Ole Ola for 2014 World Cup!" Utsav Mitra wrote.

"that fugly annoying world cup theme song by pitbull," another Twitter user dished.

"Pitbull's Ole Ole is nothing great..Should have given Ricky Martin and Shakira this track to do...Both are pure South Americans," one user tweeted.

The new FIFA anthem was, for the most part, sung by J.Lo and Pitbull in English. Leitte then simply joins the two with a short part in Portuguese. The original version of the song was leaked online and it didn't get much positive feedback from the general viewers; thus, they decided to insert some drum track from Brazilian group Olodum to make the final version even more interesting.

Meanwhile, Shakira, the 'Waka Waka' hit maker, has also released a song in time for the event and as part of the One Love, One Rhythm, official album for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Shakira's 'La La La (Brazil 2014)' features special appearances of professional footballers Lionel Messi, Neymar, Sergio Aguero, Cesc Fabregas, Radamel Falcao, Eric Abidal, James Rodriguez and Shakira's boyfriend Gerard Pique. Interestingly, Shakira's 16-month-old son Milan is also in the video and he could be seen kicking a soccer ball towards an elephant. Brazilian star Carlinhos Brown is also featured in the song.
