With the possibility of serious negative health impacts, a million pounds of beef are being recalled this May 2014.
Health is always a top priority as a massive withdrawal is being done to caution the consumers from purchasing and later on ingesting a reportedly contaminated product. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service recently released a list of stores in nine different states that may have been distributed with a contaminated beef this month of 2014 which eventually resulted to the massive recall of such product. Reports suggest that the withdrawal was decided because the product could be contaminated with a deadly strain of the E. coli bacteria.
Nearly two million pounds of meat are being retracted from the market after 11 people in four different states already got sick. The meat product which is being sold in different labels came from Wolverine Packing Co. in Detroit, a rep from U.S. Department of Agriculture says. The statewide ground beef recall this May 2014 is a result of the 11 cases being linked to the E. coli related illness since ten of those affected persons got sick after eating in the restaurant which received the contaminated meat product.
According to the CNN report, although none of the product from the Wolverine Packing Co. tested positive for the pathogen believed to cause the contamination, the company voluntarily recalled its ground beef products in response to the initial outbreak this May 2014. Furthermore, the contaminated meat is believed to be shipped to 10 states including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Wisconsin and North Dakota.
Moreover, to prevent further health problems to consumers, the meat is now removed from store shelves. The USDA also suggests that consumers should throw or return the meat belonging to the production date between March 31 and April 18, 2014. As the beef recall continues this May 2014, it is expected that list of stores contaminated with the deadly bacteria will rise.
